How to lock your secret diary
- Write a pageType on the page at the top. It saves on its own.
- Tap LockYou will find it under the page.
- Pick a PINUse 4 to 8 numbers. Do not use your birthday or 1234, because those are easy to guess.
- Remember itNext time you open the diary here, type your PIN to get in. Nobody can reset it for you, so pick one you will not forget.
The PIN keeps your diary closed when your brother, sister or friend uses the same computer or tablet. It is not super strong like a bank. Someone who is really good with computers could still find your pages. So also keep a lock on the device, and do not write passwords or addresses in your diary.

Fun ways to write a secret diary
A secret diary does not have to be plain sentences. Try these fun formats to make your pages feel extra secret.
- Secret code. Swap each letter for the next one in the alphabet, so CAT becomes DBU. Write the key on a page only you know about.
- Code names. Give people nicknames. Your crush can be Blue Sneakers and your best friend can be Captain.
- A letter. Start with Dear secret diary, or write to someone you cannot talk to right now.
- A tiny poem. Three short lines about your day, like a haiku.
- A top five list. Top five moments, top five songs, top five wishes.
- A comic in words. Describe your day as if each part were a comic panel.
Keeping a paper secret diary hidden
Some people love both: a paper diary for doodles and this online diary for quick secrets. If you keep a paper one, a book cover from another book makes it look ordinary on a shelf. A fake diary with boring entries on your desk is a fun way to fool a nosy brother or sister.

Keeping your secret diary safe
- Your pages stay on this device. They are saved in this browser, not on our computers. We cannot read them.
- No sign up. You never need an email or a password to use it.
- Use the same device. Pages you write on a tablet will not show up on a computer. There is no syncing.
- Do not use a private or incognito window. Pages written there disappear when it closes.
- Tap Lock when you are done. Then the diary needs your PIN.
- Keep a copy. Tap Print and choose Save as PDF to save your favorite pages.
- Delete a page. Tap My pages, then Delete next to the page. Once you confirm, it is gone for good.
- Forgot your PIN? Nobody can reset it. Clearing this site's data in the browser removes the PIN, but it removes all your pages too.

Questions people ask
How do I make a secret diary online?
Write in the diary at the top of this page. Your page saves on its own. Then tap Lock and choose a PIN of 4 to 8 numbers. Next time the diary opens in this browser, it will ask for your PIN. There is no sign up and it is free.
Can anyone read my secret diary?
We cannot, because your pages stay in your browser on your device. If someone else uses the same device, the PIN lock keeps the diary closed. The lock is not encryption, so a person who is very good with computers could still find the pages. Lock your device too.
What should I write in a secret diary?
Write about your day, your feelings, your friends, your crushes, your wishes and your dreams. You can also make lists, invent secret codes or write letters you will never send. If you are stuck, pick one of the 40 secret diary ideas on this page.
What if I forget my secret diary PIN?
Nobody can reset it, because the PIN stays on your device and we never see it. Clearing this website's data in the browser removes the PIN, but it also removes all of your pages. So pick a PIN you will remember, and save PDFs of pages you want to keep.
Is a secret diary good for kids?
Yes. A secret diary gives kids a private place to sort out feelings, practice writing and remember fun days. It works best with simple, safe rules: do not write passwords or your address, and talk to a trusted grown-up if something is worrying or hurting you.
Can I delete a page from my secret diary?
Yes. Tap My pages and then tap Delete next to the page. The diary will ask if you are sure. Once you say yes, that page is gone from this browser for good, so save it as a PDF first if you might want it later.
