What is a daily journal and why keep one?
A daily journal is a short check-in with yourself, written most days. It is different from a daily diary, which mostly records events. A daily journal asks questions: How am I? What matters today? What did I learn?
Research on expressive writing has found that putting thoughts and feelings into words can help some people handle stress and think more clearly. You do not need a long session to get something out of it. A few honest minutes most days is enough for many people.
- Clearer head. Worries on paper feel smaller than worries in your head.
- Better days. A morning question helps you choose what matters.
- Self-knowledge. Over weeks you see what drains you and what lifts you.
- A record of growth. Rereading old entries shows how far you have come.

Questions people ask
What should I write in a daily journal?
Write how you feel, what happened, and what you want next. A simple way is to answer the same three questions each day, such as what was the best part of today, what did I learn, and what will I do tomorrow. Add any other thoughts after that.
What are good daily journal questions to ask yourself?
Good daily questions are short and honest. Try: What would make today good? What am I worried about? What was the best moment today? What did I learn? What am I grateful for? Keep the same few questions for a while so you can see how your answers change.
How long should I journal each day?
Five to ten minutes is enough for most people. Short sessions are easier to keep doing every day. On busy days one sentence still counts. On good days you can write as much as you want.
Is it better to journal in the morning or at night?
Both work. Morning journaling helps you plan and set a mood for the day. Evening journaling helps you reflect and let go before sleep. Choose the time you can protect most often. Some people do a quick line in the morning and a longer entry at night.
Can I keep a daily journal online for free?
Yes. This page is a free daily journal with no sign up. Entries save in your browser on this device. You can lock it with a PIN, read past entries in My pages, and print or save pages as PDFs. Entries do not sync between devices.
