What a devotional journal for women is

A devotional journal is the page you write on during your time with God. You read a short passage, think about it, and respond in writing. A devotional journal for women shapes those questions around the real life of a woman: the people she cares for, the roles she carries, and the quiet battles she does not always talk about.

It is not a test of how spiritual you are. Some days you will write a full page. Some days you will write one line at a red light before school pickup. Both count. For the general method, see our devotional journal guide.

And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Luke 10:41-42 KJV

A 7 day devotional journal plan for busy women

  2. Day 2: Look for GodWrite what this passage shows about who God is. Look for words that describe Him or how He acts.
  3. Day 3: Look at the peopleWho is in the passage? What were they feeling or facing? Where do you see yourself in them?
  4. Day 4: Make it personalWrite where this truth meets your life this week: a relationship, a worry, a decision or a habit.
  5. Day 5: Pray it backTurn the passage into a prayer. Use its words and ideas, then add your own.
  6. Day 6: Pray for othersWho else needs this truth? Write their names and pray it for them.

A filled devotional journal page

Quiet timeMonday, October 6
Luke 10:38-42
God here: Jesus is gentle with Martha. He is not angry. My life: I am Martha this month. Lists, meals, work, no rest. Today I will sit for ten minutes before I open my email. Lord, I am tired. Teach me the one thing that is needed. Gifts: a hug from Noah, a sunny window, leftovers for dinner.

Short and honest is the goal. More sample pages are in prayer journal examples.

Devotional journal for men

This same page works just as well for men. The method does not change: read, notice God, apply, pray. Men often like a shorter page with one clear action. Try writing only three lines: the verse, one thing it says, and one thing to do today.

  • Where is God asking me to lead with humility this week?
  • What am I carrying alone that I should bring to God and a trusted friend?
  • How can I protect time with my family from work this week?
  • Where do I need courage to do what is right?
  • What does faithfulness look like in my job tomorrow?

For more, see the prayer journal for men.

Tips to keep your devotional journal going

  • Tie it to something you already do. Morning coffee, the school run, lunch break or bedtime.
  • Keep everything together. Bible, pen and journal in one basket, or this page saved on your phone's home screen.
  • Lower the bar. One verse and one line is a win.
  • Read with a friend. Pick the same passage and text each other one thing you learned.
  • Look back monthly. Mark answered prayers and lessons you do not want to forget.

Questions people ask

What is a devotional journal for women?

It is a journal for a woman's daily or weekly quiet time with God. Each page has room for a Bible passage, what it shows about God, how it applies to her life, and a prayer. Many also include gratitude and a place for answered prayers.

How do I start a devotional journal?

Pick one short passage, like a psalm or a few verses from a gospel. Read it twice. Write the verse that stood out, what it shows about God, how it meets your life, and a short prayer. Do this for ten minutes a day. The free page above walks you through each step.

What is a good devotional for women to start with?

The Bible itself is the best place to start. Psalm 23, Luke 10:38-42, Proverbs 3 and Philippians 4 are gentle, clear passages. Spend a week on each one using the 7 day plan on this page before moving on.

How much time should a devotional journal take?

Ten minutes is a good target, but five is fine on busy days. What matters most is showing up regularly. Many women find a short daily time and a longer weekend time works well for their season.

Can men use a devotional journal too?

Yes. The method is the same for anyone: read, notice what it shows about God, apply it, and pray. Men often prefer a short three line page with one clear action for the day. The free template on this page works for men too.
